For whom does the Bell toll? It tolls for Iowa. David Bell recorded enough receiving yards to take a trip around the world as the Purdue Boilermakers made the #2 Iowa Hawkeyes look like #2…the kind you flush. Former Hawkeye, the late Dennis Green, once said, “They are who we thought they were.” He was not speaking about his alma mater, but his words accurately reflect the thoughts of Iowa skeptics following the Hawkeyes’ 24-7 loss on Saturday. The loss drops the Hawkeyes to fourth place before an off week.
Georgia and Eastern Washington remain in first place in the FBS and FCS Power Points Standings respectively for a third consecutive week. After a slow start, the Bulldogs pulled away from #4 Kentucky for a 30-13 victory while the Eagles crushed Idaho 71-21. Georgia plays a reeling Florida in two weeks while Eastern Washington hosts a dangerous 2-4 Weber State next weekend. Idle Michigan moved back into second place and Oklahoma State makes its debut in the top four after the Cowboys rallied to beat Texas 32-24. Oklahoma, Cincinnati, and Michigan State remain undefeated. The Sooners dropped to 6th place despite their win while the Bearcats and Spartans move into the top 8. In FCS play, #2 also lost as Chattanooga upset East Tennessee State 21-16.
