While the actual Heisman will be handed out this weekend, the nine contributors for The Walk-On Redshirts voted for their own Heisman. Each person ranked their top five candidates with number one getting five points, second getting four points and so forth. As a reminder, this is how The Walk-On Redshirts voted and not what the expected outcome will be on Saturday.
5: Blake Corum, Michigan Running Back (11 Points) – Blake Corum was one of the focal parts of Michigan’s offense this season. He finished the year rushing for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns. Corum rushed for over 100 yards in eight straight Big Ten games. He suffered a knee injury just before halftime against Illinois which limited him to just two carries against Ohio State. Corum announced he was undergoing surgery which ended his season. He was still one of the most productive running backs and players in the entire country.
4: C.J. Stroud, Ohio State Quarterback (14 Points) – C.J. Stroud was once again one of the best quarterbacks in the country but his numbers took a step back from his 2021 season. Stroud threw for 3,340 yards with 37 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He also saw his completion percentage drop from 71.9% down to 66.2% this past season. Stroud helped Ohio State finish with the second ranked scoring offense in all of college football. A loss to Michigan in consecutive years has been the ultimate downfall of his Heisman campaign.
3: Hendon Hooker, Tennessee Quarterback (20 Points) – Tennessee finished with one of their best seasons in the past two decades which included a win over Alabama. Hendon Hooker was one of the primary reasons for Tennessee’s success. Hooker threw for 3,135 yards, 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions in 11 games this season. He also rushed for 430 yards and added another five touchdowns. His best game came against Alabama where he helped lead the game winning drive and also threw five touchdowns. Hooker tore his ACL against South Carolina ending his season.
2: Max Duggan, TCU Quarterback (37 Points, 3 1st Place Votes) – Max Duggan was a relatively unknown quarterback even after starting the previous three seasons. Duggan excelled in Sonny Dykes’ system throwing 30 touchdowns and only four interceptions this season. He also rushed for 404 yards and six touchdowns. Duggan helped lead comeback victories over Baylor and Oklahoma State to help TCU finish the regular season with a perfect record. TCU fell in overtime to Kansas State but still managed to make their first College Football Playoff appearance in program history.
1: Caleb Williams, USC Quarterback (42 Points, 6 1st Place Votes) – Caleb Williams entered the 2022 season with plenty of hype after transferring from Oklahoma to join Lincoln Riley. Williams helped lead USC to a Pac-12 title appearance before losing to Utah. Williams was one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the country throwing for 4,075 yards, 37 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He added 372 yards on the ground and 10 touchdowns. Williams displayed his playmaking ability on the national stage when he helped lead a comeback against UCLA by throwing for 470 yards and three total touchdowns.
