Colorado Buffaloes 2023 class
Things could not have gone worse for Colorado on the field during the 2022 season. Former head coach Karl Dorrell was fired at the beginning of October after an 0-5 start to the season and the Buffs finished the season 1-11.
However, I think if you ask most Colorado fans, I think they would all agree that they would gladly sacrifice suffering through this past season if it meant they would hire Deion “Prime Time” Sanders as their new head coach and the juice that he has brought to Boulder and in recruiting high school players and the transfer portal.
Colorado currently has 18 high school signees and have added 17 transfers so far to add up to the No. 3 recruiting class in the PAC-12 and No. 23 overall in the country.
Note: All individual player rankings, star ratings, class rankings, etc. will be based on the 247Sports composite rankings which will also combine recruit and transfer portal additions.
Things have been beyond hectic for Colorado when it comes to recruiting high school prospects and the transfer portal. Dealing with an abundance of decommitments, flips, transfer portal additions, this new staff has been extremely busy trying to get guys that are going to fit into what Coach Sanders wants in his first season in Boulder.
It wasn’t a huge surprise to see former five-star athlete and Jackson State cornerback Travis Hunter announce that he will be re-joining Coach Sanders at Colorado. He played both on offense and defense for Jackson State, but it will be interesting to see if he does the same with the Buffs.
Coach Sanders first big high school recruiting win was Derby (Kan.) Derby high school four-star running back Dylan Edwards who flipped from Notre Dame after taking an official visit to Colorado. Edwards has elite speed for his size coming out of the backfield and will look to be an immediate contributor as a true freshmen.
As expected Deion Sanders son, Shedeur Sanders, also followed him and is now with Colorado as the future Buffaloes starting quarterback. Since that happened, Colorado has also added two key wide receivers for Shedeur to work with in Boulder.
Vivian (La.) North Caddo four-star wide receiver Omarion Miller (former Nebraska commit) and Thomasville (Ga.) Thomas County Central four-star wide receiver Adam Hopkins (former Auburn commit) both ended up signing with the the Buffaloes with the expectation that they too will both compete for immediate playing time as true freshmen.
From everything we know, it sounds like Colorado still may not be done adding high school prospects and transfer portal players to their roster for the 2023 season. With Deion Sanders as their head coach, Boulder has now become a hot destination that will surely draw a lot of positive attention moving forward.
