All Things B10 – Week 1 Recap

What’s going on, College Football fans! Each week, I will break down my favorite moments of the B10 and highlight what I’m looking forward to in the coming week’s games. Let’s recap week 1 and our amazing weekend of college football in the B10.

Week 1 Recap:

  • Top Dawgs in the B10 (Michigan + Ohio State) looked shaky but won: I hate week 1 overreactions, especially for a team like Ohio State starting a brand new QB under center. I’d like to see Marvin Harrison Jr. get more targets/catches, but they have A LOT of time to fix things.
  • Drew Allar is for real, Penn State can relax: Allar had an impressive week 1 performance. Watching him tear up the WVU defense in person was truly magical. I haven’t ever seen a PSU QB throw the ball with the ease that he does. I’m VERY excited for his future in Blue & White.
  • Northwestern is one of the worst teams in CFB: I honestly don’t think they will win a B10 game this year, and their only win might come from FCS opponent, Howard.
  • There are going to be A LOT of BAD B10 conference games this year: It seems like the B10 is more top heavy than ever. Outside of the top 5-6 teams, the conference looks very weak and I don’t have high hopes for thrilling games come October/November. Minnesota/ Nebraska was a dumpster fire of a game and I expect to continue to see games just as bad.

Post Week 1 Power Rankings:

  1. Michigan
  2. Ohio State
  3. Penn State
  4. Wisconsin
  5. Iowa
  6. Maryland
  7. Illinois
  8. Nebraska
  9. Rutgers
  10. Michigan State
  11. Purdue
  12. Minnesota
  13. Indiana
  14. Northwestern

Player of the Week: Drew Allar

Drew Allar kicked off his tenure as Penn State’s starter with an electric 72-yard touchdown pass to receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith. He displayed great poise, athleticism, and overall professionalism. He looks like the real deal, and although I may be biased for picking him as my player of the week, no one else in the B10 wowed me like he did.

Week 2 Preview:

Game of the week: Nebraska At Colorado

While Iowa and Iowa State continue their rivalry this weekend, the best game of the week 2 slate is easily Nebraska at Colorado. After what the Buffs did last week against TCU, all eyes will be on Coach Prime and Colorado. Do I think it’ll be a bloodbath? No, but Nebraska is going to have a hard time slowing down the Colorado offense. With not many marquee B10 matchups this weekend, Nebraska at Colorado is my game of the week and my game to watch this weekend.

Upset of the week: Wisconsin at Washington State

Wisconsin had a solid Week 1 performance and appears to be the heavy favorite to win the B10 West. However, a trip to Washington State this weekend might prove to be more challenging than they anticipate. Washington State, left out of conference realignment, will carry a chip on their shoulder all season long. While I don’t expect Wisconsin to lose this weekend, when you consider the rest of the B10’s matchups, they face the toughest Week 2 test.

Top Heisman Candidates from the Conference:

  1. Drew Allar – Things may change, but Allar certainly looked the part of a Heisman-worthy quarterback and demonstrated why he was the #1 QB in his class.
  2. Marvin Harrison Jr – He displayed athleticism and the potential to be invited to New York come winter, but he struggled due to shaky QB play.
  3. JJ. McCarthy – He had a solid outing in their win over East Carolina, throwing for 280 yards and 3 touchdowns, which is a great way to kick off the season.
