Sunday Reactions are on a Monday because life happens. Week three lacked the surprises and upsets of week two but we still learned about the contenders in college football. Non-conference games are starting to end meaning we will have better matchups on a consistent basis. The contenders and pretenders are starting to separate themselves in the grand scheme of college football. Week four is upon us but before diving into the next slate, we need to recap last weekend.

• BYU’s dream season has come to a halt: Oregon was favored over BYU and many fans questioned why. BYU had a chance to make a push for the college football playoffs. Saturday’s loss to Oregon will be a difficult challenge for BYU to overcome. The Cougars lost by a score of 41-20. BYU likely needed to go undefeated to even have a chance at making the playoffs. The Cougars do not have a conference championship game making their path even tougher. BYU has a talented roster but not talented enough to break into the College Football Playoffs. Maybe they will have a better chance next season when they are in the Big 12.
• Marvin Harrison Jr is a Top 5 Wide Receiver: I might be slightly bias on this take but Harrison is an incredibly talented wide receiver. Ohio State has a loaded receiver room where Harrison could challenge Jaxon Smith-Njigba for the best player in the room. Harrison has an astonishing eight touchdowns over his last four games. The sophomore has incredible footwork to know where he is on the field to ensure he stays in bounds. He possesses the necessary size and speed to be a true threat at the NFL level. He has NFL talent running through his blood so we cannot be surprised.
• Notre Dame will be lucky to win eight games: Cal nearly tied Notre Dame on desperation Hail Mary at the end of the game but the pass fell incomplete. Notre Dame did not play well but they delivered in crunch time when the game mattered most. The offense once against is a serious concern if Notre Dame is going to progress this season. The Fighting Irish totaled just 297 yards against Cal. Notre Dame is averaging just 300 yards of offense per game this season. Tyler Buchner is out for the season meaning Drew Pyne will need to step up. Notre Dame travels to North Carolina which will be another tough game. Can Marcus Freeman avoid starting 1-3?
• Let’s take Kansas Serious for a minute: For just a minute, we need to talk about Kansas for a minute. Did you realize the Jayhawks are currently sitting with a 3-0 record? They defeated Houston and West Virginia already this season. Kansas had an over/under win total of 2.5. Jalon Daniels looks to be the real deal and could help them make some noise this season. Kansas is not going to contend in the Big 12. They still will have to fight to make a bowl game but this is not the Kansas of old. Lance Leipold has the Jayhawks moving in the right direction and they will be competitive on a weekly basis.
• Penn State is winning 10 games: Penn State went down to Auburn and stomped the Tigers into the ground. I am a self-proclaimed Sean Clifford hater but in his 14^th season he finally has put it together. Nicholas Singleton is one of the most exciting freshman in college football. He is the best Penn State running back since Saquon Barkley. Penn State has difficult matchups against Michigan and Ohio State remaining. The Nittany Lions should be favorites in every game besides those two. A 10 win season would likely result in Penn State finishing the season ranked in the top 10. James Franklin needs a bounce back season after struggling the past two years.
• Florida is in trouble: Remember when the Gators crushed Utah? The memory of beating the Utes is a distant memory right now. Florida struggled against USF and needed a late touchdown to take the lead. Anthony Richardson was viewed as a high ceiling quarterback but currently he playing closer to his floor. Florida still has time to recover but the turnaround must take place quick. The Gators will travel to play a tough Tennessee team this weekend. A loss this weekend could send Florida into a tailspin for the remainder of the season.
• The state of Washington, you have my attention: Before the season you could have told me Washington and Washington State would combined for eight wins and I would have believed you. Now I am starting to think both programs will win at least eight games. Washington is 3-0 after defeating Michigan State on Saturday. Former Indiana quarterback, Michael Penix, appears to have revived his career in Seattle. Penix threw for 397 yards and four touchdowns against the Spartans. Washington State is also 3-0 to start the year. Washington State cruised to a victory over Colorado State. The Apple cup could be one of the most underrated games of rivalry weekend.
• Green Wave, coming through: No one noticed but Tulane beat Kansas State on Saturday night. Tulane is also 3-0 to open the season. The Green Wave is the only undefeated school in the American Athletic Conference. Tulane has scored 111 points and only allowed 20 this season. Most fans thought Houston or Cincinnati would be the program to win the conference but suddenly Tulane is looking like a serious contender. The Green Wave will travel to Houston on October 8 for their first conference game of the season.
• Syracuse, are you for real?: Dino Babers has been on the hot seat and I thought this would be the season he would finally be fired. Syracuse starting off 3-0 with wins over Purdue and Louisville makes it hard to fire your coach. Syracuse was outgained by almost 200 yards against Purdue but still pulled out the victory. A last second touchdown from Garrett Shrader helped seal the victory. Syracuse now hosts Virginia in another tough matchup. If the Orange start 4-0 with three power five victories, will we see them in the top 25?
