1 – TCU QB-WR Duo Max Duggan & Quentin Johnston (vs. Kansas)

It was a huge week for Kansas football. 5-0 and College Gameday on the scene in Lawrence, but none of that mattered for the Horned Frogs. After a defensive struggle in the first half, TCU and Kansas turned into a shootout in the second and the Horned Frogs did most of their damage with the duo of Duggan and Johnston. 206 of Duggan’s 308 passing yards went to the 6’4″ touted draft prospect as well as 14 of his 23 completions. Johnston also accounted for the game winning touchdown with under 2 minutes left to play on an incredible catch in the back of the end zone.

TCU collides with fellow Big 12 undefeated Oklahoma State next week in Fort Worth for a matchup that’s sure to have plenty of explosive plays.

2 – Pittsburgh RB Israel Abanikanda (vs. Virginia Tech)

When I select my offensive players for this award, I typically shy away from players who played against weaker (sub-.500) competition. That gets thrown away when a guy breaks a school record held by the legendary Tony Dorsett.

Abanikanda carried the ball 36 times for 320 yards against the Hokies on Saturday, and accounted for all 6 of the Panthers touchdowns in the 45-29 victory. Probably all short yardage runs though, right? Nope! Abanikanda scored from 5, 10, 17, 29, 38, and 80 yards and had over 100 yards more than the second leading rusher of the weekend.

Without Pickett and Addison, the Panthers passing attack has been a dud, but Abanikanda shows up every week producing big numbers and will get a much deserved week off before facing a mediocre Louisville squad.

3 – UCLA Zach Charbonnet (vs. Utah)

The second leading rusher of the weekend was Charbonnet, who rumbled through the Utes defense for 198 yards on 22 carries and added a touchdown. It was a huge day for the Bruins offense as a whole, as the Bruins scored a 42-32 victory in Pasadena to take themselves to a surprising 6-0 record headed into the bye week. Chip Kelly and DTR seem to have finally figured something out and it appears we could be headed for a collision course between the Los Angeles programs *eyeball emoji*

4 – Toledo DB Quinyon Mitchell (vs. Northern Illinois)

As a quarterback, how do you allow a guy to get 4 interception? I have no idea, but Toledo defensive back Quinyon Mitchell achieved it on Saturday, and managed to return 2 of them for touchdowns for good measure. The MAC has been a cluster**** through the first six weeks of the season, with no team proving to be clearly superior than any other, but this win, and Mitchells performance, could have the Rockets in position to return to the MAC mountaintop. Toledo has fast paced Kent State next week in a matchup that’ll surely give Mitchell some more turnover opportunities.

5 – Texas Football (vs. Oklahoma)

The Red River Rivalry was anything but interesting this season, as the Longhorns wiped arch rival Oklahoma off the field in a 49-0 massacre. It was the largest victory for Texas in the history of the series, and the first time since 1998 that Oklahoma has been shutout. Quinn Ewers was on the money all day, showing why he was one of the most touted prospects in recruiting history and Bijan Robinson ran for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Texas outgained Oklahoma 585-195 in total yards, 34-11 in first downs, and allowed just 39 yards passing. Granted, Dillon Gabriel was sidelined for the Sooners, but the massacre was impressive nonetheless from a Longhorn program that has been searching for a victory to hang their hat on after a 5-7 2021 and the close loss to Alabama earlier in the season. I hesitate to call Texas back considering Oklahoma was already in a free fall before this game, but Sark has the offense clicking with a loaded weaponry for Ewers and the defense has been stout most of the year.
