Week 6 is here and similar to the “War will be over before Christmas” statements during World War I, I am deeper in my battle with College Football and understanding how I keep getting games wrong. I will tell you though, I’m not losing as badly as you think I am, I’m just running out of time. But this time will be different, I promise – buy the stock, now!
Also, I am adding an additional section to each week’s games to include the Squad Blitz tip of the game – if you haven’t already, please download the SquadBlitz app and put the “Walk-On Redshirts” as your referral!
Brief Recap of Last Week

1. 14 Iowa St. at Cincinnati
Iowa St. looked very good in their victory over Kansas St. in Dublin for the Week 0 College Football kickoff but have since come down to earth – struggling with the likes of Arkansas St. Cincinnati, however, came into the season with little to no excitement outside of returning Quarterback Brendan Sorsby and the Queen City Godfather, Dontae Corleone, but have quietly been one of the better teams in the Big 12. I think this game will be a defensive slugfest and whoever turns the ball over the least will come out victorious.
Iowa St. 22 Cincinnati 18
Iowa St. +1.5
Under 52.5
Squad Blitz Start ’Em– Iowa St.’s passing offense against Cincinnati’s 120th ranked passing yards allowed.
Squad Blitz Sit ’Em – Cincinnati’s defense….for the same reason above.
2. 24 Virginia at Louisville
Virginia may be the biggest surprise to the College Football world (to some people…) and they have the pieces to not just be a “fun story.” Virginia brings in one of the hottest offenses in the nation that can beat you on the ground and through the air. However, the Wahoos defense is enough to make this game go Yahoo as they are one of the worst units in the country. Louisville has struggled this year, but the Cards have done enough to remain undefeated. This game has all the scrapings of a good old-fashioned shoot out – take the over, take the underdog, take the Cavaliers to keep their magical season running.
Virginia 42 Louisville 30
Virginia +6.5
Over 62.5
Squad Blitz Start ’Em– Give me the Virginia passing offense against a Louisville defense that has yet to fire on all cylinders.
Squad Blitz Sit ’Em – Louisville’s (or Virginia’s) defense against a top 10 scoring offense.
3. 16 Vanderbilt at 10 Alabama
Fun fact, Diego Pavia is undefeated when playing teams from Alabama, dating all the way back to his days at New Mexico St. (NMSU – Jax St. & Auburn, Vandy – Alabama & Auburn) – and I don’t think he’s done yet. This year’s Vanderbilt crew is one of the most dynamic teams in the country, but they have one glaring weakness – pass defense. What does Alabama do well? Pass the football. However, the good news for the Commodores is that Alabama is one of the worst rushing offenses in the country, so that could help them in pass support. This one will be another one for the ages.
Vanderbilt 26 Alabama 24
Vanderbilt +11.5
Under 56.5
Squad Blitz Start ’Em– Alabama’s defense as I think they will have multiple opportunities to force turnovers against a Vanderbilt team that can be careless with the football.
Squad Blitz Sit ’Em – Alabama’s rushing offense – stay away from this group for the foreseeable future.
4. Mississippi St. at 6 Texas A&M
The Maroon matchup is turning out to be a much more anticipated game than Florida Texas this week…think about that for a minute. Texas A&M, under Mike Elko’s lead, has one of the scariest defensive units in the country despite a sub-par ranking in total defense (35th). Mississippi St. has one of the more lethal offenses as they can score in numerous ways. They say defense travels and I think that applies here…just the antithesis of what the Bulldogs need.
Texas A&M 30 Mississippi 21
Mississippi St. +14.5
Under 58.5
Squad Blitz Start ’Em– Texas A&M’s defense that I think will force turnovers and have a good shot at scoring off of a turnover.
Squad Blitz Sit ’Em– Texas A&M’s passing offense. Sometimes they are good, sometimes they are downright bad, stay away until there’s some consistency with that group.
5. 3 Miami at 18 Florida St.
Florida St. is coming off of a devastating Friday night road loss to Virginia and Miami is plowing through their competition like a knife through warm butter. The proverbial knife of Miami is sharpened by the whetstone that is the Defensive Line – top 5 rush defense and top 10 in pressure rate. Florida St. boasts the 2nd best rushing offense in the country and their defense isn’t too shabby itself. This is going to be a phenomenal rivalry game and I can’t wait to tune in.
Miami 26 Florida St. 25
Florida St. +5.5
Under 54.5
Squad Blitz Start ’Em– Florida St.’s rushing offense. Despite facing a top 5 rush defense, Florida St. will find a way to run the ball successfully.
Squad Blitz Sit ’Em– Florida St.’s defense. Yes they are ranked high in all defensive metrics, but I think the law of averages will begin to set in and replace the Bethune Cookman and East Texas A&M performances.
