What an insane week of College Football. We saw #1 Alabama get Vandy-lized in Nashville, Michigan get punked by Washington, Missouri get exposed by Texas A&M, and Miami come back from 28 down in Cal to win. You can’t make this stuff up and if you did, Hollywood would tell you it’s too farfetched – it’s not, it’s an October weekend in College Football baby. I had a decent week, but the Gamecocks ruined me, and I got exposed for believing in Missouri – I wont be fooled again, especially not by teams from Columbia.
Brief Recap of Last Week
– 9 Missouri at Texas A&M
Missouri is who we thought they were, and we aren’t letting ‘em off the hook anymore. The only thing sadder than the score of this game, was the look of the Missouri players on the sideline when they were only down two scores…
– 15 Clemson at 16 Florida St.
Clemson decided to take it easy on Florida St. by making it to the redzone 7 times and scoring, no touchdowns. The final score looked good, but Clemson has got to fix their redzone woes.
– 12 Ole Miss at South Carolina
Dylan Stewart standing over Jaxson Dart and shooting him with an air 1930s Tommy Gun pretty much sums up the Gamecocks’ season so far. They can talk the talk, but all the shots they take end up in penalties.
– Iowa at 3 Ohio St.
The only thing I missed on this game was the final score. Iowa is good, but Ohio St. is great…spoiler alert, Oregon is about to find that out too.
– 23 Indiana at Northwestern
The Choo-Choosier Express stops for no one, especially not the nerds of Northwestern. This team is fun to watch, and they keep finding ways to win. The football world and my readers are saved this weekend as my Hoosiers have a bye week. #HoosierDaddy

1. 10 Clemson at Wake Forest
Clemson comes into Winston-Salem as one of the hottest teams in football right now. Even with all the hype that the Tigers are getting, there are still some weaknesses that need to be addressed – red zone offense. Clemson currently ranks 62nd in red zone offense due to 22 trips, 10 TDs and 9 FGs. The good news is, Wake Forest ranks 86th in the country in red zone defense – one of these has to overcome the other. Tigers win big in Krispy Kreme country.

2. 1 Texas at 18 Oklahoma
Texas comes in as the best team in football right now (per the AP, not me). Although this will be the first good defense, they’ll face this year (Michigan, turns out, can’t play defense) the matchup prove favorable as the Sooner offense is non-existent. I think Texas wins this one, but Oklahoma keeps it a game for at least a half.

3. 4 Penn St. at USC
USC has struggled in conference play as they’ve lost to Michigan, should’ve lost to Wisconsin, and lost to Minnesota. You know what Michigan and Minnesota have in common? They are big and like to run the football. Now we have Penn St. coming to town and guess what they like to do…you guessed it, run the football down your throat. The difference with Penn St. is, they can also throw it and they are way more talented than Michigan and Minnesota. I think Penn St. goes to Coliseum and leaves like Russel Crow shouting, “are you not entertained?”

4. 9 Ole Miss at 13 LSU
If there’s an option to put the over on the over, take the over. This game is going to have points galore. Ole Miss comes to Baton Rouge with the 2ndrank pass offense in the country and will face the Bayou Bengal Cub pass defense that ranks 93rd in the country. Now, LSU also brings some fire power to the party like an old saloon poker game, with the 7th ranked pass offense. Which matches up nicely with Ole Miss’s 58th ranked pass defense. Rebel Yell vs Calling Baton Rouge – I’m going Billy Idol and Ole Miss over Garth Brooks and LSU.

5. 2 Ohio St. at 3 Oregon
This game has all the pieces to be a great game. Two undefeated teams. Two coaches who perceivably have the big game yips. Conference matchup. Fall forecasting. Big boy football. I’ll try to limit the rest of this preview from my caveman sentences, but sometimes when you talk ball, you just gotta get a little primitive. Anyway, Ohio St. comes into this matchup as arguably the best team in college football and Oregon comes in close on their heels. The difference in this game is going to come down to two things – who can get after the quarterback and who can get into an offensive rhythm. Ohio St. ranks 8th in sacks and they are foaming at the mouth to go against the Ducks’ 46th ranked team in sacks allowed and I think will consequentially cost Oregon the game. Bucks over Ducks.
