The Folsom Five Stars – Week 3

1 – Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss (vs. Arkansas)

21/29 – 353 yards – 1 touchdown / 15 carries – 62 yards – 2 touchdowns

With starting quarterback Austin Simmons sidelined due to injury, backup quarterback Trinidad Chambliss stepped up big time to earn the Rebels their second SEC victory of the young season. With a red hot Razorback offense on their tail, the Ferris State transfer kept the Rebels ahead all afternoon, notably leading a five possession stretch in the middle half of the game in which Ole Miss ended up with points. With Simmons issues still a question, Lane Kiffin and the fan base has to leave this win feeling pretty confident in the backup should Chambliss be forced into more action this season. Next week they’ll play host to G6 Playoff contender Tulane before a matchup with top five LSU

2 – Utah State QB Bryson Barnes (vs. Air Force)

17/22 – 287 yards – 2 touchdowns / 15 carries – 44 yards – 3 touchdowns

The one time Utah starting quarterback made the move to Utah State in 2024 and put up modest numbers in part time action, but on Saturday the super senior displayed a career performance against Air Force, accounting for five touchdowns, while securing the Aggies first Mountain West victory on the year. With McNeese on the horizon this week, the Aggies should be able to secure win number three before heading off into a full Mountain West slate in a conference that feels more wide open than we’d have guessed in the summer.

3 – West Virginia RB Tye Edwards (vs. Pittsburgh)

25 carries – 141 yards – 3 touchdowns

The Backyard Brawl is one of the best rivalry names in the sport, and the game almost always lives up to that billing. It was another slugfest on Saturday with the Mountaineers blowing an 11 point lead before overcoming a 10 point lead late to send the game to overtime, where the ‘Neers would win 31-24 on the legs of senior Tye Edwards. The Northern Iowa transfer scored three of West Virginias four touchdowns on the day and rushed for a consistent 5.6 yards per carry in the Rich Rod offense. After a tough loss to Ohio the week before, it was a much needed win for a team looking to rebound in 2025 and they’ll open up Big 12 play with Kansas next week.

4 – Texas A&M WR Mario Craver (vs. #8 Notre Dame)

7 receptions – 207 yards – 1 touchdown

The Aggies scored a huge top ten road victory on Saturday night against Notre Dame in a 41-40 classic. Quarterback Marcel Reed was highly erratic (17-37 / 360 yards) but it was the Mississippi State transfer that provided the big play ability to keep Texas A&M within striking distance all night, including an 86 yard touchdown to even the score 7-7 in the first quarter. Reed will need to be more consistent if Texas A&M wants to compete for an SEC title, but with speedsters like Craver and KC Concepcion out wide the Aggies offense should remain explosive regardless.

5 – Alabama WR Ryan Williams (vs. Wisconsin)

5 receptions – 165 yards – 2 touchdowns

It was a huge rebound performance for Williams, who struggled down the stretch in 2024 and was a non-threat in the Tides loss to Florida State to open the season before exiting with a concussion. The highly touted receiving prospect will need to be a major threat in the passing game this year to help Ty Simpson continue to develop and for the Tides offense to stabilize against SEC defenses, and he’s shown the ability to do it before (ask Kirby Smart). Williams and the Tide will get an off week before a primetime matchup with Georgia in two weeks.
